MHT CET Paper Pattern 2023
MHT CET
is an entrance test conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary &
Higher Secondary Education to rank 12th-standard students for admission to
bachelor’s programs. The board oversees counseling to allot seats to students
in government and private colleges based on their performance in the exam and
corresponding cut-off ranks for programs.
Mode of examination
MHT CET
is a computer-based test conducted in two shifts. The first shift begins at 9
AM, with the last entry from candidates allowed at 08:45, and concludes at
noon. The second one starts at 02:00 PM and ends at 5 PM.
Groups of papers
There are
two groups of subjects for students to choose from PCM and PCB. Candidates can
appear for either one or both. The exam board urges students who appear for
both groups to note that the scores of physics and chemistry are not interchangeable
among the groups.
Exam pattern for group PCM
The type
of questions asked are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), and each question
gives four options to choose the correct one. Candidates have three hours to
answer 150 questions: 90 minutes to attend 100 questions of physics and
chemistry combined and the other 90 minutes to answer 50 questions of
mathematics.
While the
correct answer to each question in physics and chemistry awards one mark, the
same for mathematics gives two marks.
Exam pattern for group PCB
The paper
pattern of physics and chemistry in PCB is the same as in PCM. Unlike
mathematics, biology papers contain 100 questions. Each correctly answered
question awards one mark. Hence, PCB asks 200 questions. In addition, biology has
two sections: zoology and botany, with 50 questions from each part.
Note:
once a candidate logs in and chooses a section, for example, physics &
chemistry, they cannot
switch to
the other segment (maths or biology) until they finish the first one.
Syllabus and weightage
CET
questions examine candidates for the syllabus from the 11th and 12th standards.
While 80 % of questions are on concepts from the entire syllabus of the 12th,
the remaining 20% are from the 11th class. Every year, the state CET cell of
Maharashtra updates the list of concepts from class 11 from which questions are
framed. Candidates can refer to the CET brochure for the list and focus on
those topics instead of relearning the entire syllabus.
Groups and prospective degree
programs
Candidates
who know their choice of bachelor courses must be aware of the groups mandatory
to gain admission to selective programs. 12th science students who have opted
for combinations other than PCMB appear for the PCM group to get admission to
engineering courses. However, students with PCMB need to be mindful of their
choice.
– Courses that accept either PCM
or PCB
Bachelor
of Science(B. Sc.) (Honors) in agriculture, horticulture, agri-business
management, and community science. Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) in
biotechnology and other branches.
– Programs that mandate PCM
B. Tech
in food technology and agriculture engineering
– Courses that mandate PCB
Bachelor
of fishery science and BSc honours in forestry.
