What is IIT JEE?

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is conducted by National Test Agency (NTA) to assess students’ ability for admission to the prominent Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) across the country. The exam is divided into two parts: JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. The students who qualify for the JEE Mains paper are eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced paper. The JEE advanced qualified candidates are eligible for admission to the top engineering colleges such as  IITs, NITs, and other prestigious colleges.

JEE Mains Exam Paper Pattern 2025

JEE main is the entry-level exam for admission to engineering college, and its difficulty level is moderate. The exam comprises of two papers. The first paper has  physics, chemistry, and mathematics which allows you to get admission in the IITs, NITs, and CFTIs participating through the Central Seat Allocation Board. Whereas the second paper is for admission to B.Arch and B.Planning.

JEE Mains Paper 1

 The JEE Paper 1 is for admission to B.Tech and B.E. courses. The paper has the following features:

1. It consists of multiple choice questions to be answered by Computer Based Test (CBT) mode only in the allotted exam centre.

2. The time duration of the exam is 3 hrs. The total number of questions is 30 for each subject.

3. Each subject is divided into two sections. ‘Section A’ will be a multiple choice whereas for ‘Section B’ you have to fill in the numerical value. You need to attend only 5 questions from section B.

4. For each correct answer, you will get +4 marks whereas for a wrong answer, a mark (-1) will be deducted from the score. Both sections have negative markings.

5. The total mark for paper 1 is 300.

JEE Mains Paper 2

The JEE mains Paper 2 is composed of two sections 2A for B.Arch. and 2B for B.Planning. 

Paper 2A:

1. It is a computer-based test (CBT) for mathematics and aptitude tests, whereas pen and paper for the drawing section. The exam is conducted at the allotted exam centre by the NTA.

2. Paper two consists of three parts mathematics (Section A- 20 questions and section B- 10 questions), Aptitude test 50 questions, and drawing test 2 questions. From section B Mathematics you need to answer only 5 questions.

3. Marking scheme: +4 marks are allotted for the correct or most appropriate answer whereas -1 for the wrong answer.

4. The raw score in Mathematics, Aptitude Test, Drawing Test, and Total is converted into NTA Scores. The overall merit will be calculated by combining the NTA Scores from both shifts on all days. 

5. The total mark for paper 2 is 400.

Paper 2B

1. It is only in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode consisting of questions on mathematics, aptitude, and planning conducted at the allocated exam centre.

2. Mathematics has two sections (section A 20 questions & Section B 10 questions), Aptitude 50 questions, and Planning 25 questions. From section B mathematics you need to answer only 5 questions.

3. Marking scheme: +4 marks are allotted for the correct or most appropriate answer whereas -1 for the wrong answer.

4. The total mark for the paper is 400.
