How to get into a GFTI in 2025

Getting into a GFTI is achievable through several pathways. Here’s your step-by-step guide:

1. Appear for JEE main 2025

The most common route is through JEE Main. This is the national entrance exam for engineering colleges, including GFTIs. Ensure you’re well-prepared and aim for a high score to increase your chances.

2. State-level entrance exams

Some GFTIs, especially in states like West Bengal, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh, also accept scores from state engineering exams like WBJEE, OJEE, and UPSEE. If you’re preparing for state-level exams, check whether your state GFTI has a separate counselling process or accepts these scores in addition to JEE Main.

3. Meet the cutoff

Each GFTI has its own cutoff score based on your category (General, OBC, SC, ST, etc.). Keep an eye on the expected cutoffs to gauge your chances of getting into the desired branch.

4. Participate in JoSAA counselling

After JEE Main results are out, you’ll need to register for JoSAA counselling. This process allows you to choose your preferred GFTIs and engineering branches. Make sure to list GFTIs towards the later rounds if you’re targeting one of these institutions.
