JoSAA Counselling 2025: Step-by-Step Process, Important Dates & Seat Matrix Details
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA), a centralized authority, holds national JoSAA counselling for admission to IITs, NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs. Admission to IITs will be based on JEE Advanced 2025 rankings, whereas NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs will be allocated based on JEE Main 2025 scores. JoSAA 2025 enrollment will likely begin on June 3, one day after the JEE Advanced 2025 results are released.Â
In June 2025, the JoSAA 2025 application form and choice filling will be available exclusively online on the official website josaa.nic.in. JoSAA 2025 is expected to take place in five rounds. What is JoSAA Counselling?
The JoSAA is a central body which administers the JEE Main and JEE Advanced counselling process for admission to IITs, NITs, GFTIs, and other participating colleges in the JEE exam. The committee is established by the Ministry of Education to provide a fair seat allocation to the participants. 121 institutes, including 23 IITs, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs, and 40 Other-GFTIs, take part in the JEE 2025 exam offering around 59,937 seats (as per last year’s data).

JoSAA 2025 Eligibility Criteria
Before registering for the counselling process, the candidate must have a look at the eligibility criteria for JoSAA counselling for admission to IITs & NITs.
For admission to IITs
- The candidates must have passed the JEE Advanced 2025 exam with a good score. The candidates who qualifies, JEE Advanced exam are only eligible to take admission to the IITs.
- The candidates must have passed class 12th in the year 2024 or 2025.Â
- Must have passed and secured at least 75% aggregate marks in the Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination for the general category. A relaxation of 10% is given to the candidates belonging to reserved categories.
For admission to NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs (NIT+System)
- Must have passed JEE Main Session 1 or Session 2 exams. The admission is provided to the candidates based on their ranking and percentile in the examination.
- Must have secured at least 75% marks in the class 12th board examination or equivalent (65% for reserved categories).
- Must have completed their 12th standard in the year 2023, 2024 or 2025.
JoSAA 2025 Counselling Process
The detailed counselling process for JoSAA 2025 for admission to the B.Tech program is as follows:
- Registration– To register, candidates must log in to JoSAA’s official website and provide their JEE Main 2025 application number, candidate name, mother’s name, and date of birth. After logging in, candidates must verify all information such as gender, nationality, state code of eligibility, contact information, and so on.
- Choice Filling – After registering, candidates must select their preferred branches and colleges according to their preference. The admission options open to the candidate will be given based on their qualifications.Â
- Choice Locking: Once the candidate has filled in the choice of their college and branch, they must lock the choices and take a printout for future reference.
- Seat Allocation: The seat will be allocated to the candidate according to their ranking and preference. The candidate can use the options Float, Freeze, Slide or Withdrawal.Â
- Fee Payment for Seat Acceptance: If the candidate is satisfied with the seat allocation and would like to proceed further, he has to pay a fee of ₹ 45,000 (general category) or ₹ 20,000 (reserved category). Fee payment is compulsory for candidates to go through the document verification process.
- Document verification: A copy of the listed documents is required to be submitted online for verification. Only after verification, the candidate will be allowed to go for the final admission process.
- Final Admission: Candidates are required to visit the college for submission of the remaining fees and complete the admission process before the last date.
List of Documents Required for Verification at JoSAA Counselling 2025
The candidates should keep the original and a copy of the following documents to be verified after the JoSAA seat allotment process:
- Class 10th marksheet and pass certificate.
- Class 12th marksheet and pass certificate.
- Three passport-size photographs (same as JEE application form).
- Category certificate (if applicable).
- PwD certificate (if applicable).
- A photo-identity card issued by the government.
- Medical Certificate.
- OCI certificate/ PIO card, if applicable.
- Passport/Citizenship certificate, if applicable.
- Crossed Bank Cheque copy / Image of Passbook with bank account details.
During the document verification process, if the officer asks for any clarification for any document, candidates are required to respond to the same in the given time frame or else their seat will be cancelled and allotted to the next eligible candidate. Therefore, it is recommended that candidates should check their verification status, as no correspondence will be provided apart from their application status.

How to Fill Choices in JoSAA Counselling 2025
Registered candidates can begin filling out their choices. Before beginning the JoSAA option filling 2025 procedure, candidates must again verify the OTP issued to their registered mobile number and email address. Once authenticated, candidates can begin the selection process. The available options (institutions and programs) will be displayed. Candidates can choose the institute type, institute name, and program from the list shown. Applicants must select as many options as feasible from the list, in the order of their preference.
The candidate can rearrange the choices, interchange two or more choices, or delete filled choices before the locking process. Candidates must check the details of the choices once more before locking, as it is the final option to change any preference.Â
What After Seat Allocation in JoSAA Counselling Process 2025
Once the seat is allotted to the candidate, according to his rank and choice preference, the following options are available:
- Freeze: The candidates who are satisfied with the seat allotted to them and would like to take admission can use the ‘freeze ’ option. They will not be able to attend the further counselling rounds.
- Float: The ‘float’ option says that the candidate accepts the seat but is open for a further round where he can get the more preferred options for upgrading his admission. If the candidate does not get the other seat, he will continue with the locked seat.
- Slide: Choosing the option “Slide” indicates the candidate accepts the provided seat and will accept admission to a higher-preference academic program within the same Institute in the following rounds of seat allocation.
- Withdrawal: The candidate does not want to participate in the counselling session and withdraws their name from further rounds.
